What No Diet Can Fix

Macros matter. So does meaning. Why most diets fail the people who need them most, and what actually has to change for the weight to stay off.

I've done the diets. Probably the same ones you have. And here's the pattern I lived over and over: lose some weight, gain it all back, plus interest. For years I blamed the diet. Eventually I realized the diet was never the problem. It also was never going to be the solution.

A diet works on the plate. It doesn't touch the reason the plate kept getting refilled.

Macros matter. So does meaning.

I'm not anti-nutrition. What you eat matters. Whole foods, protein, water, all of it helps. But food was never just fuel for me. It was comfort, it was a friend, it was how I coped with fear and stress and loneliness. No meal plan ever written has a column for that.

So I'd follow the plan perfectly for two weeks, white-knuckling it, and then the first hard day would come and I'd be right back in the pantry. The food rules didn't fail. They just couldn't reach the part of me that was actually driving.

Why the weight comes back

Here's the thing nobody told me: if you lose 30 pounds and nothing changed inside you, you will gain it back. Every time. Because the person who lost it is still the same person who gained it. The thoughts are the same. The coping is the same. The identity is the same.

That's why I teach spirit, mind, body, in that order. Get the spirit settled, get the mind renewed, and the body finally has somewhere steady to stand. A healthy body is a byproduct of a healthy mind and a healthy spirit. Skip those and you're just renting your results until the lease runs out.

What to do instead

Keep the good food habits, they help. But stop expecting a diet to fix something a diet was never built to fix. Ask the deeper question: what is the eating actually doing for me? What am I really hungry for? That question is uncomfortable, and it's also the door no diet can open for you.

This isn't another diet. It's a new way of life. That's the only version that lasts.
