The Story

799 pounds toa new life.

What followed was not a miracle. It was eight years of small, stubborn, faith-led work — the kind that doesn't fit in a before-and-after photo. No weight-loss surgery. No shortcuts. Plateaus, setbacks, and the slow, ordinary practice of choosing life in every bite.

The Journey

Eight Years. One Honest Step at a Time.

Age 16 · 799 lbs

The bottom.

An ambulance carried me out of my home to a hospital in Pittsburgh. My mom leaned in and whispered, "Honey, do you know how much you weigh?" I didn't. "799 pounds." Trapped in food addiction and fear, I faced a choice: keep hiding, or tell the truth.

Years 1–2 · ≈400 lbs

Surrender.

Not a diet. A decision, rooted in faith. I stopped hiding, told the truth out loud, and started rebuilding spirit first, then mind, then body. About 400 pounds came off in the first two years.

Years 3–8 · Slow & steady

The long middle.

The part nobody photographs. Plateaus, setbacks, and the stubborn discovery that small wins compound. No weight-loss surgery, no shortcuts — just one honest choice at a time.

Today · ≈215 lbs

Made for more.

A new body, a renewed mind, a clearer spirit. Author of five books, speaker, coach, and host of the 600 Pounds Down podcast. I'm still walking out recovery, honestly. I didn't survive nearly 800 pounds for nothing. I survived it for somebody.

Losing the weight was the work of years, not a procedure. I didn't have weight-loss surgery. What I did have, once I reached my goal, was surgery to remove the excess skin left behind — the one part of the journey a changed diet and discipline couldn't fix on their own. I'm not ashamed of it. It was part of finishing what I started.
